Terms of Service

The rules and conditions for using Becausify's investigation platform and related services.

Effective date: July 2, 2026

Agreement

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern access to and use of Becausify's website, applications, APIs, chat integrations, and related services (collectively, the "Service") operated by Becausify ("we", "us", or "our").

By creating an account, connecting a repository or database, or otherwise using the Service, you agree to these Terms and our Privacy Policy. If you use the Service on behalf of an organization, you represent that you have authority to bind that organization.

If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

The Service

Becausify helps teams investigate software systems by searching connected codebases, running read-only database queries, and using AI to explain findings with evidence from your configured sources.

The Service may be accessed through our web application and supported chat platforms such as Slack, Microsoft Teams, Discord, and Google Chat.

We may update, suspend, or discontinue features at any time. We will use reasonable efforts to avoid materially reducing core functionality for paid plans during an active subscription term without notice.

Accounts and workspaces

You must provide accurate registration information and keep your credentials secure. You are responsible for activity under your account.

Organizations, workspaces, projects, seats, and member roles define who can access investigations and connected sources. Administrators are responsible for inviting users and configuring permissions appropriately.

You must be at least 16 years old to use the Service.

Your content and connected sources

"Customer Content" means code, data, questions, investigation outputs, configuration, and other material you or your users submit to or connect with the Service.

You retain ownership of Customer Content. You grant us a limited license to host, process, transmit, and display Customer Content solely to provide and improve the Service, enforce these Terms, and comply with law.

You represent that you have all rights necessary to connect repositories, databases, and integrations, and that your use of the Service complies with applicable law and any third-party terms governing those sources.

Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • Use the Service to violate law, infringe intellectual property, or harm others.
  • Attempt to bypass security, access another customer's data, or probe systems without authorization.
  • Reverse engineer, scrape, or resell the Service except as expressly permitted.
  • Submit malicious code, interfere with Service operation, or overload connected systems.
  • Use the Service to generate or distribute spam, malware, or deceptive content.
  • Misrepresent AI-generated output as guaranteed fact without appropriate human review.

Third-party services

The Service integrates with third parties such as GitHub, database providers, chat platforms, payment processors, and AI model providers. Your use of those services is subject to their terms and policies.

We are not responsible for third-party services, outages, or changes that affect integrations you enable.

AI-generated output

Investigation answers are generated automatically and may be incomplete, outdated, or incorrect. You are responsible for reviewing outputs before making production, security, billing, or customer-facing decisions.

The Service accelerates investigation; it does not replace professional judgment, code review, or formal incident response processes.

Database and code access

Database connections are intended for read-only investigation. You should grant least-privilege credentials. We apply safeguards such as query limits and timeouts, but you remain responsible for the credentials and sources you connect.

GitHub access is used to index and search code you authorize. You may disconnect repositories at any time.

Fees and billing

Paid plans, seat limits, project limits, and included usage are described on our pricing page and in your order or subscription agreement.

Fees are billed in advance according to your selected plan unless otherwise stated. Taxes may apply.

Except where required by law, fees are non-refundable. You may cancel renewal according to your plan settings; access continues through the end of the paid period unless terminated earlier under these Terms.

We may change prices for renewal periods with reasonable advance notice.

Free and beta features

Free tiers, trials, and beta features may have limited support, availability, or functionality. We may modify or end them at any time.

Confidentiality and security

Each party will protect the other's confidential information using reasonable care. Customer Content is treated as your confidential information except as needed to operate the Service or as you choose to share within your workspace.

We implement reasonable security measures, but no system is perfectly secure.

Intellectual property

We and our licensors own the Service, software, branding, and documentation, excluding Customer Content. No rights are granted except as expressly stated in these Terms.

You may provide feedback; we may use it without restriction and without obligation to you.

Suspension and termination

You may stop using the Service and close your account at any time.

We may suspend or terminate access if you materially breach these Terms, create security or legal risk, or fail to pay applicable fees. We will use reasonable efforts to provide notice when practical.

Upon termination, your right to use the Service ends. Provisions that by nature should survive — including payment obligations, disclaimers, limitations of liability, and dispute terms — will survive.

Disclaimers

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, WHETHER EXPRESS, IMPLIED, OR STATUTORY, INCLUDING IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT.

We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that investigation results will be accurate or complete.

Limitation of liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, BECAUSIFY AND ITS SUPPLIERS WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR LOSS OF PROFITS, DATA, GOODWILL, OR BUSINESS INTERRUPTION.

OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO THE SERVICE OR THESE TERMS WILL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF (A) THE AMOUNTS YOU PAID US FOR THE SERVICE IN THE TWELVE MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM OR (B) ONE HUNDRED U.S. DOLLARS (US$100).

Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations, so some of the above may not apply to you.

Indemnification

You will defend and indemnify Becausify against claims arising from your Customer Content, your connected sources, your use of the Service in violation of these Terms, or your violation of applicable law or third-party rights, except to the extent caused by our gross negligence or willful misconduct.

Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, United States, without regard to conflict-of-law rules, except where mandatory consumer protection laws in your country of residence apply.

Except for claims that may be brought in small claims court or for injunctive relief, disputes will be resolved by binding arbitration on an individual basis. You waive any right to participate in a class action to the extent permitted by law.

General

These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy and any order or plan-specific terms, are the entire agreement between you and Becausify regarding the Service.

If a provision is unenforceable, the remaining provisions remain in effect. Our failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver.

You may not assign these Terms without our consent. We may assign them in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets.
