Becausify ("we", "us", or "our") provides an AI-powered platform that helps engineering teams investigate codebases and connected data sources. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have when you use our website, applications, and related services (collectively, the "Service").

By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.

We collect information in the following categories:

• Account information — name, email address, authentication identifiers, organization and workspace membership, and billing contact details.
• Connection and configuration data — GitHub repository links, database connection settings, integration settings (such as Slack, Microsoft Teams, Discord, or Google Chat), and encrypted credentials you provide so the Service can access your configured sources.
• Investigation and usage data — questions you submit, investigation history, tool outputs, retrieved code snippets, query metadata, and activity within your workspace.
• Technical and device data — IP address, browser type, device information, log data, and cookies or similar technologies used to operate and secure the Service.
• Support and communications — messages you send to us, feedback, and records of support requests.

When you connect GitHub repositories, we index code to enable semantic search. Code is processed into embeddings and related metadata so investigations can retrieve relevant snippets. We do not use your repository content to train public AI models.

When you connect a database, the Service runs read-only SELECT queries on your behalf during investigations. Query results are used to answer your question and are subject to the retention practices described below.

You control which repositories, databases, and integrations are connected. You are responsible for ensuring you have the right to connect those sources and share associated data with Becausify.

We use collected information to:

• Provide, operate, and improve the Service, including running investigations and chat integrations.
• Authenticate users, enforce workspace access, and maintain security.
• Process subscriptions, invoices, and account administration.
• Send service-related communications, such as security alerts and product updates.
• Monitor performance, debug issues, prevent abuse, and comply with legal obligations.
• Respond to support requests and understand how the Service is used in aggregate.

Investigations use third-party AI providers to reason over retrieved context from your connected sources. We send only the context needed to answer a specific question — not your entire codebase or database.

We configure AI providers for inference on your requests. We do not permit providers to use your Customer Content to train their general-purpose models where such contractual controls are available.

AI-generated answers may be inaccurate or incomplete. You should verify important findings before acting on them.

We do not sell your personal information. We may share information with:

• Service providers that help us operate the Service, such as hosting, authentication, email delivery, payment processing, and AI inference providers, under appropriate confidentiality and security obligations.
• Other members of your organization workspace, according to roles and permissions you configure.
• Integration platforms you connect (for example, Slack or Microsoft Teams) when you use those channels to interact with Becausify.
• Authorities or third parties when required by law, to protect rights and safety, or to enforce our Terms of Service.
• A successor entity in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, subject to this Privacy Policy unless you are notified otherwise.

We retain account and workspace data for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service.

Investigation history is retained so your team can reference past answers unless you delete it or close your account, subject to backup and legal retention requirements.

Connection credentials are stored in encrypted form and removed when you disconnect a source or delete your account, within reasonable technical limits.

We may retain certain logs and billing records as required for security, fraud prevention, and legal compliance.

We use administrative, technical, and organizational measures designed to protect information, including encryption of secrets at rest, scoped access within organizations, and read-only database query restrictions.

No method of transmission or storage is completely secure. You are responsible for safeguarding your account credentials and reviewing who has access to your workspace.

Depending on your location, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or export personal information, or to object to or restrict certain processing.

You can update account details in your settings, disconnect integrations, and manage workspace membership. To request deletion or exercise privacy rights, contact us at the email below.

You may opt out of non-essential marketing emails by using the unsubscribe link in those messages.

We may process information in countries other than where you live. Where required, we use appropriate safeguards for cross-border transfers.

The Service is not directed to children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the revised version on this page and update the effective date. Material changes may also be communicated by email or in-product notice.
